Wild Boar Game
The wild boar, an ancestor of today's pig, is found across Europe and Asia and in parts of north Africa, notably countries bordering the
Mediterranean as well as Egypt and Sudan. If fact the Wild Boar is the most widely distributed land mammal on Earth.
Sleeping for twelve hours a day, they feed at night and
female boars live together in "sounders" of 6-30 other boars whilst male boars tend to live alone only joining the sounder around mating season. They live primarily on grass, leaves and shoots but also eggs, worms and even snakes.
They are also known to finish off carcases left by other
animals after a kill. Hunted by a range
of predators, the Wild Boar is also preyed on by humans not
only for meat but also for its sharp tusks that are sold or
kept as trophies.
